Safety First

Hi All,

It’s that time of year again, with muddy water at the boat ramp yesterday, to think about cold water safety.  Our website's files section has the CORA Safety Manual which is our main safety reference.  At the AGM I was asked to put together an addendum to this manual to cover some local hazards which are not discussed in the CORA manual. It is also listed in files.

I thought I should go over the navigation lights here in case I don’t see you at one of your practices. Unfortunately the lights don’t line up unless they are used with the base they came with, So I have labelled the lights for the individual boats. The boat number is on the orange button on top and on the storage containers in the shed. Please store the lights in those containers. Boat 1 is the old Mirage and Boat 2 is the new Mirage. To start the lights you have to press the orange button on top for 5 seconds then scroll through the setting until you get to just red and green for the bow and the 270 degree or the 110 degree setting for the white on the stern. The lights just snap into their bases with magnets that are attached to both the light and the base. There are extra batteries in the shed if the lights go dim. The light simple screws apart to install new batteries.

I hope that is clear. If not I will be coming to the next couple of practices just to make sure we are all clear.

Safe and happy paddling all year long!

Wayne
